Man Charged with Child Pornography for Hacking into E-Mail Accounts, Stealing Photos

A 23-year-old man has demonstrated how easy it can be to break into another person's e-mail account by posing as the user and guessing the answers to security questions. The man pleaded guilty in California late last week to hacking into thousands of women's e-mail accounts.

Once he was in the account, he would change the password and look for nude or semi-nude photos contained in the e-mails. If he found any nude photos, he would post them to the user's Facebook profile page.

According to PC World, the man pleaded guilty last Thursday to charges of felony hacking, child pornography and identity theft. He could face up to six years in prison.

Law enforcement alleges that the man broke into more than 3,200 e-mail accounts and found nude or semi-nude photos in 172 of the accounts. The man also allegedly obtained additional explicit photographs from one woman after threatening to post the photos he had found if she didn't send him more pornographic images.

The man guessed the security questions by first looking into the women's Facebook profile pages and gathering possible answers to the questions. The questions are usually not too difficult to answer and concern subjects like the user's mother's maiden name, pet's names or elementary school name.
