'Cake Boss' assistant pleads guilty to sexual assault in New Jersey

A man who appeared on the reality TV show, "Cake Boss," has pleaded guilty in a Superior Court in Morristown to aggravated sexual assault of a minor. Remigio "Remy" Gonzalez admitted to sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in New Jersey on two occasions.

According to The Star-Ledger, Gonzalez agreed to a plea deal, allowing his first-degree charges to be downgraded to second-degree. It also allowed him to avoid 13 of the original 15 counts against him. The man faces five to ten years in state prison. He will also be required to register as a sex offender under Megan's Law. He must serve at least 85 percent of his total sentence. He is prohibited from having contact with the victim or her family.

The Morris County Prosecutor's Office plans to try to deport Gonzalez once he is released from prison back to his native Mexico, according to The Star-Ledger. He is currently in county jail, as he was unable to pay the specified bail of $300,000. He is expected to be sentenced on August 5.

After being arrested in 2009, the man initially denied having assaulted the victim, but admitted to the sex crime after being told that the girl had been taken to a physician to receive medical treatment. He reportedly did not make eye contact with anyone during his hearing, with the exception of the judge.

"Cake Boss" is a TLC reality show that is set in Hoboken, New Jersey. Gonzalez used to be married to the Cake Boss's sister.
