Arrests made in connection with string of New Jersey thefts

When most people think about theft these days it is usually in relation to identity theft or some kind of bank fraud, simply because these types of crimes are the most likely incidents to get heavy media coverage. However, the same old theft crimes, like burglary and receiving stolen property, are still something that law enforcement officials deal with every day.

According to a recent report, New Jersey law enforcement officials have stated that two men have been arrested in connection with allegations of theft of lawn care equipment. The two suspects, a 26-year-old man and a 25-year-old man, both from New Jersey, are currently in custody.

The reports indicate that these two men are alleged to have stolen the equipment in question from both business and individuals. In one case dating back to May of this year, one business owner reported that chainsaws and a backpack blower were among the pieces of equipment stolen from his property. There were no immediate details as to how the two men who were arrested became suspects, although the reports indicate that some stolen property was sold to a pawn shop in neighboring Pennsylvania.

Theft crimes can be hard for the authorities to prosecute, because unless someone is caught in the act it can be difficult to connect an individual to a stolen piece of property. Surveillance cameras are more prevalent than ever these days, but if there is no security footage the authorities will probably need quite a bit of additional evidence in order to secure a conviction. As the two men in this New Jersey case begin to assess their options for a criminal defense strategy, a full review of the evidence will be a priority.
