Al Gore Accused of Sexual Misconduct, But No Charges Filed

The National Enquirer reported this week that a massage therapist accused Al Gore of sexual misconduct in 2006. No charges, however, were ever filed in the case. Portland police say that an attorney representing the masseuse called them with the report in late 2006, but the woman canceled appointments with investigators and did not want to make a statement or press charges. The police reports say that the case was closed because of the woman's refusal to report a crime or cooperate with investigators. She said she didn't want to talk with police immediately after the incident out of fear of "being made into a public spectacle."

Parents Should Talk With Kids About Internet Safety

Last week, the New Jersey school districts of Ridgewood, Allendale, Glen Rock, and Midland Park sponsored a presentation by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office (BCPO) on how parents can better keep their kids safe from sexual predators on the Internet. The cyber-safety presentation gave tips to parents on how to protect their child's identity online and how to talk to their children about being safe online. The presenters urged parents to be involved in their children's lives and to know what they are up to online.

NJ Woman Recognized Census Worker as Sex Offender, Called Police

A New Jersey mother recently recognized a Census worker's face as one she had seen on New Jersey's database of convicted sex offenders and called police. The man was indeed a convicted sex offender, and he now faces charges of using a fake name and fake Social Security number to get the job. The astute woman believes that if she hadn't recognized the man and called police, he would still be going door-to-door.
