Lawrence Taylor will have to register as sex offender after conviction

Lawrence Taylor will have to register with law enforcement authorities as a sex offender for the rest of his life after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor sex crime. Taylor pleaded guilty this week to hiring and having sex with an underage prostitute last May.

Taylor says that he asked the girl her age and she told him she was 19. Despite what she told Taylor, the girl was actually only 16 and a runaway who was forced into prostitution and sent into Taylor's room by a pimp. The pimp will also be prosecuted by authorities. Prosecutors said that Taylor avoided jail time by helping them with their case against the pimp as well as with other cases.

The ex-linebacker and member of football's Hall of Fame has had run-ins with the law before in his life, many related to problems with drug abuse and addiction. He has also admitted to patronizing prostitutes at other times in his adult life.

Because of his conviction for the sex crime, Taylor will have to serve six years on probation. Even though the crime was a misdemeanor and Taylor will not serve jail time, he will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
