OutKast's Big Boi charged with drug crimes

One half of the Grammy-winning hip hop group OutKast was arrested recently following a cruise and is now facing drug charges. Antwan "Big Boi" Patton was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection after he disembarked from a cruise ship. Some media outlets have reported that the cruise ship was the Carnival Valor. According to USA Today, Carnival would not say whether Big Boi was riding on that cruise.

After Big Boi, disembarked, a dog trained to sniff out drugs called Customs and Border Protection's attention to the hip hop artist, and they searched Big Boi and reportedly found ecstasy pills. They also found drug paraphernalia that had marijuana residue on it. In addition, Big Boi reportedly had Viagra pills in his possession but did not have a prescription for the pills. Big Boi is now facing charges of drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The 36-year-old musician was arrested after the cruise ship docked in Miami. Big Boi was brought to jail and booked, but released after he posted $16,000 bond. The singer made light of the situation by posting on Twitter: "[expletive] they said it was the Love Boat."

According to USA Today, Big Boi's attorney said that a small amount of drug paraphernalia was found in the collective luggage of a group of friends leaving the cruise ship. Big Boi's defense attorney said that he believed that the drug charges would eventually be dismissed against his client when the facts were examined.

Big Boi belongs to the hip hop duo OutKast. The other member of the group is Andre 3000.
