Police operation in New Jersey leads to drug arrests and more

New Jersey law enforcement officials, and indeed police organizations across the country, are engaged daily in efforts to curb drug crimes in America. Oftentimes several different agencies in one particular area will cooperate in large-scale operations to target individuals who have become suspects in criminal investigations. One such operation occurred recently in Hackensack, and the result was the arrest of over 100 people.

According to the reports, 115 people were arrested during the citywide operation that took place on February 24. It appears that the primary method used by law enforcement officials was to set up drug purchases by undercover officers. The result was the seizure of all kinds of illegal drugs, including cocaine and heroin.

Drug distribution operations are often more complex than the general public may know about. Law enforcement officials know this, and many times an arrest of an individual on drug charges could just be the starting point of that individual's problems with the criminal justice system.

Reports associated with the recent operation in Hackensack have surfaced detailing one particular individual's alleged involvement with more than just drug possession and drug trafficking. The individual question, a 62-year-old man who has reportedly served a previous prison sentence, has been linked to several murders involving child victims from many years ago - what law enforcement officials call "cold cases." The exact nature of the link this individual has with these cold cases wasn't immediately known, but his case just goes to show that an arrest on drug charges could just be a stepping stone to even more serious legal problems. Besides the planning this man will need for his criminal defense on the drug charges he was recently arrested for, he will now need to consider his options if law enforcement officials begin to try to make connections between him and cold cases.
