Alleged cocaine operation said to span parts of New Jersey

Law enforcement agencies throughout the country are working every day to take down large-scale illegal drug operations. If recent reports are accurate, just such an operation culminated in the arrest of 16 people who were allegedly part of a cocaine drug distribution network that spanned parts of New Jersey and New York City.

The reports indicate that the investigation into this alleged illegal drug network began approximately five months ago. Several law enforcement agencies were involved in the investigation and the subsequent sweep that resulted in the arrests on September 10.

The two men who appear to have been the primary targets for police were allegedly operating out of New York City. The police are apparently alleging that the illegal drugs were brought into New York City and then transferred to dealers for distribution in New Jersey. Besides the arrests, law enforcement officials also reportedly seized large quantities of illegal drugs in the sweep, including cocaine and marijuana. Police officers also seized 13 vehicles that the suspects were using, as well as approximately $7,000 in cash.

The 16 arrestees are facing a variety of drug charges, and it appears that all of the cases will be heard in New Jersey courts. Some of the arrestees are said to have prior criminal records, including records for violent offenses. The arrest records for the others were not immediately detailed in the reports, but curiously enough the suspects are said to be mostly older men - 40-years-old and up. In almost any case that involves illegal drug charges, if the suspect has a prior criminal record the charges could be amplified - and the potential sentence upon a conviction could be much more severe.
