23-year-old man arrested in alleged Toms River stabbing incident

Many of our New Jersey readers have experienced sibling rivalries in their lives - it is quite common. But, most of us do not take these rivalries as far as one man is alleged to have done in an attack on his sister in Toms River.

According to a recent report, the suspect, a 23-year-old New York man, is said to have stabbed his 34-year-old sister on December 28. Most criminal justice experts would be able to tell our readers that many instances of violent crimes involve family members, and this situation apparently also involved the mother of the suspect and the alleged victim. The reports indicate that when police officers reported to the scene and attempted to arrest the 23-year-old suspect he began resisting arrest - and his 52-year-old mother is said to have inserted herself into the fracas. The police officer who was attempting to make the arrest suffered minor injuries. The suspect's mother was charged with interfering with a police officer. The stabbing suspect was eventually taken into custody.

Few other details were immediately available regarding the circumstances leading up to the alleged stabbing incident. The victim was transported for medical care and the reports indicate that she required surgery. The stabbing suspect will be facing an attempted murder charge, as well as charges of resisting arrest and possession of a weapon.

When a criminal case involves family members it can be interesting to see if the alleged victim actually decides to help the prosecution effort. In some cases family members decide to forgive-and-forget and try to work through their issues on their own - even in situations where injuries occur.
